Starting a Website

Starting a website is a great idea. To start, you will need an idea of what type of website you would like to create. A good idea is to choose a particular niche where you will have a good chance at ranking well in the search engines. For example: Site about The Star Wars Movie.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, or even if you're not. There are likely to be a lot of people searching for information related to Star Wars on search engines. Your job is to build a website about something in particular in regards to the Star Wars movie. Because if you use the keyword Star Wars as your main keyword, there will likely be too much competition. If you were to instead focus on the keywords Star Wars Aliens or Star Wars Movie HD, you will probably have less competition and a better chance at ranking your site well in search engines.

You need to do keyword research before starting a website. Doing keyword research is easy, just use the Google keyword tool to do your research. Type in a keyword you may want to start a website for, and then you can see how much competition and traffic there is for that keyword. You can also hide and show columns that you need or don't need with this tool, the main columns to look at are advertiser competition, and number of monthly searches.

Ok, so once you have your keywords and your niche, you should then think about a good domain name to use. The best domain you can get is one that has your main keywords in it. So if you want to rank for the keywords Star Wars Aliens, you should try and see if the domain star-wars-aliens.com is available, you can also leave out the dashes and try that too. Search engines like sites that have the main keywords in the url. If you have your keywords in your domain name it will add keyword richess to your site.

If you are targeting a keyword phrase more then 3 words, then you may choose a domain name that only reflects some of your keywords. Getting a domain that is 5 or 6 words long is not recommended in my opinion. Try getting a domain in that case, that reflects 2 or 3 of your main keywords. Or choose a domain that is unique and cool, your keywords don't necessarily have to be in your domain, for the site to rank well.

Once you have found a niche, and you are ready with your 2 or 3 main keywords, and you have a good domain name in mind, you should then think about getting a web hosting account. The web hosting I use and thousands others use, which is very reliable is inMotion Hosting. Their servers are fast, and they have a user-friendly cPanel account interface which is easy to use. I recommend you get the Pro account, with a Pro account you can build and host up to 25 individual different websites on your 1 account. When choosing a website host, you want to go with quality not necessarily the least expensive. With inexpensive cheap hosting, your site may not be running 99% of the time, and their servers may be slow.

Ok, you've chosen a domain name, you have your keywords ready, and you've got an InMotion Hosting account. Now you are ready to start building your website. To build a website you will need an html editor. I recommend you buy a copy of Dreamweaver CS5, you can get one on Ebay.com at a discount price, it is usually cheaper to buy it on Ebay then on Amazon or the main Adobe.com website.

Now, if you don't have any html skills you should take an online course on both html, and on using Dreamweaver.

To learn Dreamweaver cs5 go to youtube.com and search for Dreamweaver Cs5 tutorials.

Once you know how to use Dreamweaver and you have your hosting account and domain name. You should then insert content into several pages of your website. Refer to our search engine ranking page, to learn how to make each individual page you construct rank well on search engines.

The key is to build several websites that focus on several keywords. The more pages you create the more content you will have and the more money you will make. Some people like to just focus on one website and work really hard at it. That is very good too. Starting a website is the main goal, once you have one, you may want to make more. It just depends on how big your website is and how much work it takes to maintain it.

Happy Website Building.
